The coaching staff sure could have used this weeks bye one week
sooner. But with the way Bronco talked about how they underestimate the difference between where BYU is and where TCU is, it may not have made a difference in
the win/loss record.
I think that Bronco needs to stop relying on self evaluation and find an independent evaluator to give him a better look at where they really stand in comparison with the teams they are going to play, the talent, execution, and performance levels each player. And let's not forget the performance level of each coach in preparing the players, scouting the opposition players and coaches, and understanding of where the team and coached need to look to improve.
The football program also needs and unbiased evaluation of the recruits and the recruiting process. The evaluator cannot be the A.D. It has to be someone that is from the outside, this should be obvious to even the casual observer, however, there are so many folks that think that they are smarter/better than anyone brought in from the outside, and must have football experience, have full and complete access to to the coaches while working with each other and players. The evaluator needs to be allowed to interview recruits that signed and did not sign with BYU. He must also be allowed to have leaving players complete a survey about the coaches, including how they were treated, what they liked and disliked about the coaches as well as their complete experience at BYU and things that should be done to improve the program and school experience.
It seems obvious to me that there is something wrong with the program and the only consistency in the program is the coaching staff. Yes there have been some coaching coming and going, but the basic coaching methods have been, here comes the mandatory disclaimer, for the most part, unchanged since day one of the Bronco era.
At least that's how I see it!
